How to use this tool

1

Add a PDF

Choose the PDF you want to reduce. Its page count and original size are shown.

2

Set a target

Enter a number and choose KB or MB, or use a preset from 100 KB to 2 MB.

3

Download the best result

The tool tries several quality and resolution levels. Download a result that meets the target, or the smallest result with an explanation if the target is impossible.

Quick tip: A 100–500 KB target usually suits forms. PDFs with many photos shrink far more easily than text-only PDFs.

Use the PDF size reducer when a portal demands a hard number, such as a 1 MB or 2 MB cap on a job application site. You enter a target in KB or MB and the tool steps resolution and JPEG quality down until the file fits.

Hitting a target without ruining the document

Pick the common 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB, or 2 MB presets when the portal lists them. Any other number can be typed; accepted values run from 1 KB to 100 MB. Tighter targets take longer because more attempts are tested.

Before uploading, open the result and check pages with small text, stamps, or signatures. If those are unreadable, the target is too small for this document — portals usually still reject an illegible file even when the size passes.

When the target cannot be reached

The tool always reports the smallest file it managed to produce, including the final size, and warns when the target is missed. Nothing happens silently: you decide whether the result is usable, or whether pages should first be removed in PDF Page Optimizer.

Common questions

Still have a question? Contact us

What if the target size cannot be reached?
The tool shows the smallest result it can produce along with its size, then suggests a larger target, fewer pages, or a document with simpler images. You can still download the best result.
Why does it take longer than normal compression?
Each attempt re-renders every page at a different resolution and quality. The tool stops as soon as the target is met, but PDFs with many pages take longer. You can cancel at any time.
Can the text still be searched?
Not in a re-rendered result. To reach the target, pages are converted to JPEG images. If searchable text is essential, use PDF Page Optimizer with Keep original structure, though the size reduction will be smaller.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Every attempt runs on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, and no result is stored after you close the tab.
What is the maximum PDF size?
One file up to 100 MB. Documents with many high resolution pages are still processed step by step to keep the tab stable, and password protection must be removed first because locked files cannot be read.
Why is the reduced PDF still above my target?
Because the tool reached the lowest quality that remains usable, or the pages are high noise scans. Try a slightly looser target, delete unnecessary pages, or rescan at lower resolution.
